Samson is a wonderful horse to be around. I have had him for about 3 years and, unfortunatly I do not have the time to give him the attention that he deserves. He is very laid back and gentle. He is trained to drive both single and with a partner - his former owners used him to pull wedding carriages until he outgrew his partner. He is a very social horse and loves being around other horses and is often better with them around (better on trail rides, better in cross ties, better in the trailer, etc...) He prefers to be in a field board situation with unlimited access to a shed and lots of hay and pasture! In the winter he eats about 1 - 1.5 bales of hay a day and I feed him 21 oz. of sweet feed a day ( about 7 scoops) He is fine in the field with other horses and respects electric fence. (if the fence is not electrified he has been known to inadvertantly take it down by leaning to the other side for grass) He is current on his vaccinations and worming and is healthy and sound. My farrier does not have much of a problem with him, however, it takes a patient and confident person to do it because he lets you hold him up! I am 5'3" and can pick up all 4 feet to clean them as long as I do it quickly. He is gentle enough for a beginner (we've put kids up double on him before) however, he needs a confident handler. His size he can be very intimidating. For example, if he makes a side - step spook like a normal horse (which is the extent of his spooking capabitilites) it feels 10 times bigger just because of his size. I ride him in a normal western saddle with a girth extension or I use my dressage saddle with an english girth to get around his belly. We have only used him for trail rides and he has gone over and through everything that I've asked him to. He is very lazy and prefers to go as slow as possible (walk, trot), but he will canter if one insists.
