Barney has been used as a Sheriff's posse horse for the past three years. He responds very well to cues. He fast but will slow down to a walk and stand for hours if you ask him. The only reason I think he needs an intermediate rider is because he will go fast if asked and that can be intimidating to new riders if they don't know what they are asking.
